Frequently Asked Questions
What is TrackMyTour?
TrackMyTour is a travel tracking app for the iPhone. Updates made with the app are displayed on an online map for friends and family to follow.
What does an online map look like?
See a sample map. The map page isn't optimized for the iPhone yet.
Is TrackMyTour free?
The TrackMyTour iPhone app and website are free to use, but you are restricted to two maps. If you wish to create more maps you can purchase an upgrade from within the app.
Is TrackMyTour a real-time tracker?
No. Waypoints are added at discrete points whenever you want to highlight a location or say, “Here I am.” This minimizes battery consumption since the iPhone doesn't need to be continuously left on.
Can I create waypoints without a data connection?
Yes. Waypoints can be saved as “draft” and submitted at a later time when you have an internet connection (e.g., at the hotel where you have WiFi access). This is useful when traveling to foreign countries where data roaming costs can be expensive.
Where can I get it?
TrackMyTour for iPhone can be downloaded from the App Store. You can also search for “trackmytour” in the iPhone's App Store app.
Does TrackMyTour work with the iPod Touch?
Yes, but with limitations. The iPod Touch is less accurate and reliable than the iPhone 3G & 3GS due to the way it determines its location. See the Understanding Location Services article on the Apple support site for more information.
TrackMyTour also works with the first generation iPhone, but best results are achieved with the iPhone 3G & 3GS.
My location is wrong. What's going on?
TrackMyTour uses Location Services to determine its location and has no control of its accuracy. There are many factors that affect the accuracy of the GPS, including: the iPhone/iPod model, data connection, proximity to WiFi & cell towers, and whether the iPhone is obstructed from the sky. See the Understanding Location Services article on the Apple support site for more information.
Can I embed the map on my website or blog?
Yes. On the map page is a link to “Google Maps”. Once the map is loaded in Google Maps, you can get the HTML to embed by clicking on “Link”.
We appreciate a link back to TrackMyTour when embedding a map into your website or blog.
How can I delete waypoints or edit map details?
Waypoints can be edited in the app by tapping the blue indicator in the Waypoint list. Deleting waypoints and editing maps can be done on the My Maps page of the website. Be sure to synchronize your maps (from the Settings tab in the app) if you make changes through the website.
Who's behind TrackMyTour?
See the credits page.
